Our shop is right on the 100 Feet Ring Road in Kothrud, at 82/22. If you know that road, you know how loud and busy it gets. Dhanlaxmi Sweets is usually full of people in the evenings when everyone is heading home. I start my day by checking the stocks of sugar and ghee. We go through a lot of it every week. The kitchen is tucked away in the back, and it’s usually a bit of a mess with bowls and trays everywhere. We try to keep a variety of things in the display, but sometimes we just stick to the basics. My son helps me out on the weekends when he’s not at school. He’s learning how to make the sugar syrup, which is harder than it looks. You have to get the consistency just right, or the whole batch is ruined. We’ve had some long nights here, especially before festivals when everyone wants their orders at the same time. The Ring Road is always jammed, so sometimes the delivery trucks get stuck, and we have to wait around. It can be frustrating, but that’s just life in Kothrud. We don't do any big advertising; people just see us when they’re driving by and stop in. It’s a small place, but it keeps us busy from morning till night. We just keep doing what we know how to do, one tray at a time.
