Deepak Sweets has been sitting here on Dhanakawadi 4th main Tata Silk Form 21/2 for quite some time now. I get here early every single morning, usually before the sun is even up, just to get the milk boiling and the heavy pans ready. It gets really hot in the back kitchen once the stoves are going, but that is just how it is when you are making fresh mithai every day. We don’t have a big team or anything fancy, just a few of us who know how to handle the sugar syrup and the flour. The address is 21/2 and people usually find us because they can smell the ghee from down the street. It’s a small shop, and sometimes the counter gets a bit crowded when the school nearby lets out. We spend most of our time just making sure the trays are full and the glass is wiped down. Most days are long and my back usually hurts by the time we close up, but seeing the same neighbors come in every evening for their small box of treats makes it feel okay. We don't do much advertising because most people around here already know where we are. It’s just a regular place where you can get something sweet without much fuss. We try to keep things simple and just focus on the work right in front of us, making sure the taste doesn't change from one day to the next.
