D R Agarwal Sweets is located on Bajirao Road in Budhwar Peth, right at 1113. If you walk down that way, you can usually smell the sugar and the frying long before you see the shop. We start very early in the morning, getting the milk boiling and the dough ready. The kitchen is always hot, no matter what time of year it is. We’ve got big trays of sweets lined up in the glass cases at the front. It’s a busy spot because Bajirao Road is always packed with people. We get everyone from students to old-timers who have been coming here for years. The shop is quite narrow, so when it gets crowded, people are practically shoulder to shoulder. We don’t have fancy seating or anything. People mostly just grab what they want and head out, or stand by the counter for a quick bite. We use recipes that haven't changed much over time. It’s a lot of manual work, stirring big pots and shaping things by hand. The staff has been here for a long time, so we all know the routine perfectly. Sometimes we run out of the popular stuff by mid-afternoon, and we just have to tell people to come back tomorrow. We don’t do any fancy packaging unless someone asks for a gift box. It’s just good, plain sweets sold by people who have been doing it for a lifetime.
