Bholenath Sweets

You can find Bholenath Sweets right on the Parangipalya Main Road in Otur. It’s a busy spot with lots of cars and bikes going by all the time. We opened this place because we wanted to do something for ourselves. The shop is mostly just a counter and the kitchen behind it. We spend a lot of our time cleaning up. Making sweets is a messy business with all the flour and ghee. We try to keep things as tidy as possible, but it’s a constant battle. The morning rush is usually the hardest part of the day. Everyone wants something to take with them. We have a few assistants who help with the heavy lifting and the frying. They’re good people. We’ve known them for years. The Main Road is always dusty, so we’re constantly wiping down the glass. It’s just one of those things you have to do when you have a shop here. We don’t have a fancy menu printed out. We just tell people what we made fresh that day. Sometimes we try making something new, and if people like it, we make it again. If they don’t, we just stop. It’s a simple way to run a business. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop in Otur. We just want to be the one people think of when they’re nearby. It is hard work but it is our work.
