Balkrishna Sweet

Balkrishna Sweet is found in the Manjari area, specifically inside Dahanukar Colony. It is a pretty quiet spot compared to the main roads. We open up the shutters early in the morning and start setting out the trays. The colony has a lot of people who have lived here for a long time. They come in for a bit of something sweet after they go to the market. We keep the shop simple. There are no fancy decorations or anything like that. Just the shelves and the containers for the sweets. We spend most of the day in the back room preparing things for the next day. The weather in Manjari can get quite warm, so we try to keep the shop cool with a couple of old fans. Sometimes the kids from the colony come in after school. We know their parents and their grandparents too. It is a small community feeling here. We have a small fridge for the milk items. My brother helps me with the accounts and the cleaning. We don't really do any advertising or anything like that. People just walk in because they live nearby or they are visiting someone in Dahanukar Colony. It is a steady pace of work. We usually finish up by eight or nine at night and head home ourselves. It is just a regular life running a sweet shop in this neighborhood. We like being part of the colony and seeing everyone grow up.
