Badhai Sweet Mart

Our shop is at 4/A in New Janta Nagar, right on Street Number 14 in Khondhwa. If you walk by, you’ll likely smell the sugar and the milk being boiled down in the back. We spend our mornings setting out the trays and making sure everything looks decent behind the glass. It’s a lot of sticky work, and we’re always washing our hands or wiping down the counters. During the holiday seasons, it gets incredibly busy and we end up staying late into the night just to keep the shelves full. We’ve got big metal vats for the frying and the syrup, and the kitchen gets pretty humid. We don’t really do much advertising; people just know we’re here because they see the crates being delivered or the neighbors tell them. The floor is made of stone and it’s seen a lot of foot traffic over the years. We have a small corner where we keep the packing boxes and the scales. Sometimes we mix up an order or run out of a particular sweet, and we just have to apologize and offer whatever else is ready. It’s not a polished place, just a working shop where we make things by hand and try to keep things moving. We’re usually tired by the end of the day, but that’s just how it goes in this business.
