Vidyanand Prakashan

People often ask where we are exactly, and usually, I just tell them to find Asawari-10 here in Aundh. Vidyanand Prakashan isn't a huge place with fancy glass walls or anything like that. It’s mostly just us surrounded by stacks of paper and the smell of ink. Some days it feels like the books are taking over the whole space, but that is just how it goes when you’ve been doing this for a while. We spend a lot of time checking proofs and making sure the pages are in the right order. It gets a bit noisy when the machines are running, but you get used to it. My desk is tucked away in the corner and sometimes it’s hard to find a clear spot to put down a cup of tea. We started out small and stayed that way because it works for us. Aundh has changed a lot over the years, with new shops popping up everywhere, but our little spot stays pretty much the same. Sometimes a neighbor drops by just to chat or ask about a specific title we handled months ago. It isn't always organized perfectly, and there’s usually a box or two blocking the hallway, but we know where everything is. If you come by during the rainy season, watch out for the puddle that forms near the front step. We just keep our heads down and get the work done, day after day, because that is what we have always done.
