Over in Chikhlee, specifically Ambedkar Nagar on Rajawadi 7th Road, you'll find Amrut Sweet Home. It’s a modest little place. We don’t have fancy glass displays, just some old wooden shelves and a few cooling racks. We live not too far from the shop, so the commute is just a short walk past the temple. The kitchen is where we spend most of our lives. It’s always warm from the burners. We make everything in small batches because we don’t have much storage space. This means things are usually fresh, but it also means we run out of things quickly. If you come late in the evening, the shelves are mostly empty. The neighborhood is friendly, though. Most of our customers are people who have lived here for decades. We know whose kid likes what and who prefers less sugar. It’s not a high-profit business, but it pays the bills and keeps us active. Sometimes the rain leaks a little through the corner of the roof, so we have to move the boxes around. We’ve been meaning to fix that for a year now. The 7th Road gets quite muddy during the monsoon, which keeps some people away, but the regulars still show up with their umbrellas. It’s just a normal shop for normal people.
