Being in Pimple Gurav at number 2, we’ve seen a lot of neighbors come and go. Amrit Sweet Shop isn't anything special to look at from the outside, but we keep it clean. I get here early to help unload the crates. The kitchen in the back is where I spend most of my time, stirring the big vats of milk until it thickens. It’s hard work on your arms, and your back starts to ache after a few hours. We don't use any big machines, just our hands and some old wooden spoons that have been around forever. My cousin helps me with the counter sales. He’s better at talking to people than I am. We get a lot of kids coming in after school looking for something sweet, and we try to have a few things ready for them. The Pimple Gurav area has grown so much lately, but we still know most of the people who live on our street. Sometimes we run out of something popular by noon, and people get a bit annoyed, but we can only make so much at once. It’s just a small family operation. We don’t have a website or anything like that. We just focus on getting the snacks made and making sure the floor is swept. It’s a simple business, really. You make the food, you sell it, and you go home and rest for the next day.
