If you walk down Street No. 3 in Sasane Nagar, you’ll find us at Amar Sweets. It’s a small place, but we stay busy making fresh batches of whatever is in season. We have the usual stuff like laddoos, barfis, and some savory snacks too. The kitchen is right in the back, so you can usually smell the sugar and ghee being heated up throughout the day. We don’t have fancy packaging or a big marketing team. We just put the sweets in the glass counter and sell them to the neighbors. Some people have been coming here since they were kids, and now they bring their own children in for a treat. It gets really hectic during festivals like Diwali or Holi, and we end up staying late into the night just to keep the trays full. The floors get a bit sticky and the fans are always humming to keep the heat down. We try to keep things simple and traditional, using the same recipes we’ve always used. It’s a lot of stirring big pots and traying up hot snacks. We don't spend much time on decorations, just enough to keep the place clean and the food covered. It’s just us doing what we know how to do, serving the local community here in the lane. We’re usually here until nine at night, sometimes later if the dough for the morning isn't finished yet.
