Adharsh Sweets

If you come down to 17th Cross in Sector 4 of Chinchwadgaon, you’ll find us at number 2. Adharsh Sweets is where we spend all our time over big pots of boiling milk and sugar. The kitchen is always hot, and the air is thick with the smell of cardamom and ghee. We don't have a fancy storefront with neon signs. It’s just a counter with some glass cases where we put out whatever we made that morning. My hands are usually sticky from the syrup, and my clothes always smell like a bakery. We start very early, long before most people are awake, to get the fresh batches ready. Sometimes the milk delivery is late, and it throws our whole schedule off, which is a bit of a headache. We have a few benches for people to sit, but most customers just take their boxes and go. The neighborhood is quiet compared to the main city, which we like. We use old recipes that haven't changed much over the years. We don't put any fancy decorations on our sweets; they just look like what they are. Sometimes we run out of the popular items by midday, and people get a bit disappointed, but that’s just how it goes when you make things by hand. It’s hard work standing on your feet all day, but we are used to it. The floor gets slippery so we have to be careful.
