Aaiji Sweets is right in the middle of Eagle Market on 90 Feet Road 5 in Dhanakawadi. It’s a loud place to work because of the market noise, but you stop hearing it after a few weeks. We have a lot of walk-in customers who are just doing their grocery shopping and decide they want something sweet. The shop isn't very big, so we have to stack the boxes high up to the ceiling. It’s a bit of a reach sometimes. We do all the cooking in a small room behind the counter. It gets cramped when there are three of us back there. We try to keep things simple. We don't have a big sign, just the name painted above the door. Most people know us because we’ve been here so long. The morning rush is the hardest part of the day. Everyone is in a hurry to get to work and they want their snacks immediately. We don't always have everything ready on time, especially if the milkman is late. My cousin helps out with the accounts, though he’s better at eating the stock than selling it. It’s a family thing, so we argue sometimes about where to put the new jars, but we get over it by the time we close. The street lights outside flickers at night, but we're usually packed up by then anyway.
