Umami Kitchen

Umami Kitchen is located at No 14 Bazaar Saint Laurent, right on the ground floor in Pondicherry 605001. We are situated directly opposite Pampoo Garden, which is a nice landmark if you are trying to find us for the first time. The kitchen is where we spend nearly all our daylight hours. It isn't a massive operation, just a regular spot where we cook and serve what we have for the day. Living and working in Pondy has its own pace, and we try to stick to that without rushing too much. We get a mix of locals and people just visiting the bazaar. Sometimes the rain makes things a bit slow and the street gets muddy, but usually, the area is quite active and loud. We don't have a big corporate team or anything like that, it's just us making sure the food is ready when people walk in. The building itself is older, like many in this area, but we keep our space as tidy as possible. We start prep early in the morning so everything is fresh for the first customers. It's a lot of chopping and stirring, and then the lunch rush happens and we are all on our feet. By the time we finally clean up at night, we are pretty tired, but we do it all again the next day. It’s just a simple life running a kitchen in a busy bazaar where everyone knows everyone else. It's not fancy but it works for us.
