Government High School

This is the Government High School located in Ranavav, which is a part of Porbandar. It sits in a fairly open area where the wind can get quite strong sometimes. Being a government school, we do not have any fancy stuff. It is a plain building with thick walls that stay relatively cool even when the Gujarat sun is beating down outside. The address is simple enough to find if you are in the 360550 area. We have a lot of students coming from the nearby families who live in Ranavav. The classrooms are filled with the sound of kids reciting their lessons or the scratching of pens on paper. We have a big bell that someone has to ring manually to mark the start and end of the periods. The playground is not much more than a flat patch of ground, but the kids do not seem to mind when they are playing cricket or just running around during the break. In the mornings, there is a lot of activity at the front gate as everyone arrives at the same time. The staff room is usually cluttered with books and old exam papers. We just focus on getting through the syllabus every year. It is a basic place, honest and hardworking, without any of the extra bells and whistles you might find in private schools in the bigger cities. We just keep the doors open and the lessons going for the local kids.
