Our clinic is located inside Lashmi Niwas at the Paras Compound on Bari Path in Nayatola. It is a bit tucked away, so you have to keep an eye out for the compound entrance when you are walking down the street. Nayatola is always noisy with traffic and people shouting, but once you step inside the compound, things get a little bit quieter, which is good for the kind of work we do with speech and hearing problems. We have a few rooms set up for testing and talking to people who come in. It is not a huge institute, despite the name on the front, but it is where we spend our whole day. The walls are painted a simple color and there are some old chairs in the waiting area that have been there for years. We see kids and older people mostly, and they often come with their families. Sometimes the walk down Bari Path is a bit crowded because of all the vendors and the cars squeezed into the narrow spaces. We have been in this specific spot for a while now, and the neighbors all know us well. It is a practical space, nothing too special to look at, but it serves the purpose. We keep a ledger of everyone who visits and we try to stay organized, even when it gets a bit chaotic on busy afternoons. It’s just us here, doing the daily tasks and helping whoever shows up at the door looking for some help.
