Down in the basement of Maharaja Kameshwar Complex, things are different from the street. Frazer Road is always loud. Cars honking and people rushing to Buddha Park across the way. But once you come down the stairs, it gets a bit more relaxed. We have the bar on one side and the tables on the other. It’s not a very big space, but it’s enough for the folks who stop by after work. The air is always a mix of faint smoke and fried snacks. We have these old fans that click while they spin. Sometimes the lights flicker when the generator kicks in. Patna can be like that. We spend a lot of time wiping down the counters. The bar has been here for a long time. You see the same faces every Friday. Some people just want a cold drink and a quiet corner to sit in. We don't have fancy menus with pictures. Just a list of what’s available on that day. Our staff has been here for years. We know who likes their drink strong and who wants extra onions with their snacks. It’s a basement, so we don't get much sun at all. We use lamps mostly. It makes it feel like it’s always evening inside. When we finally close up, Frazer Road is usually quiet. We lock the gate at the top of the stairs and head home.
