We are situated behind Hira Place on Baily Road. Shastri Nagar is where we set up our kitchen. It’s mainly a workspace first and foremost. We cook for weddings and small family parties around the neighborhood. It gets very hot in the kitchen during the summer months with all the burners going. We have a few big pots and heavy-duty burners that we use every single day. My cousin helps out with all the food prep and chopping. We started out just doing snacks for locals, but now we do full meals for larger groups. We don’t have a website or anything fancy like that. People just call our number or come to the back door to talk to us. The smells of spices are always in the air around here. Sometimes the neighbors notice the onions being chopped early in the morning. We buy our vegetables from the market nearby every morning. Nothing stays in the fridge for very long because we like things fresh. We use recipes that have been in the family for a long time. It’s not fancy hotel food, just the kind of stuff you want to eat at a family gathering. We have a couple of old vans for delivery. We spend most of our time cleaning up and getting ready for the next order. It is hard work and the hours are long, especially on weekends, but we like being part of Shastri Nagar.
