Floating Restaurant

We spend a lot of time down by the water here at Gandhi Ghat. It is a bit different running a place that actually sits on the river. Most days start early when we get the supplies down to the Mahendru area. You have to carry everything onto the boat and make sure the chairs are lined up right before people start arriving in the evening. The river breeze is nice, but it makes keeping the napkins on the table a real chore. Sometimes the water is high and sometimes it is low, so the gangplank feels a bit steeper on some days than others. We have been here in Patna for a while now and people just know to find us near the ghat. It isn't a fancy setup, just a kitchen and some tables on the deck. We spend most of our time making sure the stove is hot and the floor is swept after the last group leaves. You can see the lights reflecting off the Ganga while you eat. It gets quiet late at night when the city sounds fade out and it's just the sound of the water against the hull. There is always something to fix, like a loose railing or a squeaky board. We just keep things moving and hope the weather stays clear for the weekend crowds. It's just a simple spot to sit for a bit while the boat sways. We always make sure the life jackets are tucked away where they belong.
