Morni Hills Farmers Producer Company

Up here in Morni, life is a bit different than down in the plains. We have the Morni Hills Farmers Producer Company running from Archna Devi’s house. She is Laik Singh’s wife and she keeps things organized for all of us. It is beautiful here but the farming is tough because of the hills and the uneven ground. You cannot just run a big tractor over everything like they do elsewhere. We have to be very careful with how we use the land. We started this group because we wanted to share our knowledge about the crops that grow well in this specific hilly climate. Panchkula is nearby but it feels like a different world sometimes. The air is clearer up here. We are just a small group of people who love these hills. We deal with whatever comes our way, whether it is wild animals or bad weather. We do not have a lot of fancy equipment or big trucks. We rely on each other mostly. Sometimes we meet up and just talk about the old ways of farming versus the new stuff they tell us at the big meetings. It is a mix of both, I suppose. We are just trying to keep our traditions alive while making enough money to live on. There is no big mystery to what we do. We are just the farmers of Morni, doing what we can with what we have. It is a quiet life.
