Bhilpura Honey Farmer Producer Company Limited is based right at Tokoni Chowk in Udamgarh, number 81. If you come by the village, you’ll probably see some of us hanging around near the crossroads. Our life is mostly about the bees. We have these wooden boxes spread out where the flowers are, and we spend our days checking on them. It’s not the kind of job where you can wear a nice suit. You’re usually in heavy gear or just old clothes that you don't mind getting sticky. Honey is a messy business, but there is something satisfying about seeing the jars fill up. Udamgarh is a quiet place and the bees seem to like the peace and quiet out here. We are just local farmers who decided to pool our resources together. We don't have a big marketing department or anything like that. Most of our day is spent driving out to the hives or cleaning the equipment at the shop. The seasons really dictate what we do. When the flowers are in bloom, we are working from dawn until way past dark. It’s a lot of lifting and moving boxes around. Sometimes you get stung, which is just part of the deal. We keep our records in a simple ledger at the chowk and try to make sure everyone gets their fair share. It is a simple way to work and we like being our own bosses.
