Maruti Seeds Co.

Our place is located right by the New Bus Stand at Kaka Choraya. It’s a very busy area with buses coming and going all the time, so there’s always a lot of noise and dust in the air. We deal with seeds and stuff for farmers. Since we're near the bus stand, a lot of people from the nearby farms drop in while they are waiting for their ride home. They ask about what’s growing well this season or what kind of fertilizer they should use. We aren't scientists, but we've been around farming long enough to know a thing or two. The bags of seeds are heavy, so there’s a lot of lifting involved every day. The shop smells like earth and dried grain, which I’ve grown to like over the years. We keep a ledger to track who bought what, and it’s all done by hand. It’s not a high-tech office, just a desk and some stools for customers to sit on while they wait. Sometimes the bus is late, so we end up chatting for an hour about the weather or the price of crops. That’s just part of the job. We try to keep the right seeds in stock for the right time of year. It’s a bit of a scramble when the planting season starts, but we manage. We’ve been at Kaka Choraya for quite a while now and know the land well.
