We are set up right by the Old Bus Stand. It’s a location everyone knows. That makes things easier for the farmers. Sambhajirao Kadam Agro Producer Company Ltd. isn’t a fancy corporate office. It is just a practical space where we handle the agricultural side of things. There’s usually a lot of paperwork on the desks. You can always smell grain or fertilizers in the air here. Farmers come in from the surrounding villages to talk about their crops. They want to see what we’ve got for the season. The buses rumbling by make the windows rattle every few minutes. It’s a busy environment but we prefer it that way. Most of the staff here grew up around farms. We understand the issues people face with their soil or the rain. We spend time coordinating with suppliers and making sure the storage is organized. It’s not always pretty, especially when the monsoon hits. The floor gets muddy from all the boots coming in and out. We have a couple of old chairs for visitors. The teapot is almost always hot. The goals are simple: keep things moving and make sure the supplies are ready when the planting season starts. It’s hard work, especially during the harvest, but it’s what we know. The Old Bus Stand is a landmark, so we get a lot of foot traffic just passing through. Every evening we lock the gates and head home.
