Steel Smith

We are based out in Vasai East at the industrial estate. Specifically, we are on Plot 12 in Sector 2, over in Gauraipada. It is a long name for a place that is basically just a big shed full of steel. Steel Smith is what we call ourselves because that is what we do all day. We work with metal. The Vasai Taluka Industrial Cooperative Estate is a busy place with trucks coming and going constantly. Our unit is always noisy with the sound of grinding or cutting. You can smell the iron in the air as soon as you step inside. It’s a practical space. We have heavy racks to hold the steel bars and plates. The floor is concrete and pretty beaten up from moving heavy loads around. We don’t have air conditioning, just the breeze coming through the big shutter doors. Most of the time, we are wearing work clothes that stay dirty no matter how much they get washed. We don't have a polished website or a sales team in suits. We just talk to the people who need steel parts made. Sometimes we have to work late when a big shipment is due. It’s hard work and it’s physically demanding, but it’s what we know. The neighborhood is full of other shops like ours, so there is always someone around to borrow a tool from or grab a tea with.
