Krishna Masala Co

If you come down to Inderlok 184-185, you will find Krishna Masala Co. The first thing you usually notice is the strong smell of chili and turmeric in the air. It’s quite powerful and sometimes makes new visitors sneeze. We spend our mornings sorting through sacks of whole spices that come in from the wholesale market. The grinding machine in the back is quite loud and runs for most of the day. We try to keep the floors clean but there's always a bit of dust because that's just how it is with spices. Our shop isn't very large, so we have to stack the bags high up against the walls. People from the neighborhood come by with their own containers sometimes, and we fill them up right there at the counter. We have an old scale that we trust more than the digital ones. It’s a family-run thing, so there’s always someone around to help out. The ceiling fan hums along while we weigh out cumin or coriander. It gets hot in the summer, but we keep the door open to get a breeze. We’ve been in this exact spot for years, and the neighbors are all friends of ours. It's a busy life, always measuring and packing, but it feels good to see the finished bags ready to go. Sometimes we run out of space and have to move things to the small room upstairs. It's a lot of climbing, but we manage somehow.
