Keshri Haldi

Keshri Haldi is based over at Lawrence Road in the industrial area, at Plot No. C-38/4. If you walk anywhere near our gate, you can usually smell what we’re doing before you even see the sign. The scent of turmeric is pretty much stuck in our clothes and everything else in the building. It’s a dusty job, and everything has a bit of a yellow tint to it after a while. This part of Lawrence Road is always full of lorries loading and unloading goods. We spend a lot of time managing the bags coming in from the markets and getting them processed. It’s loud because of the grinders and the packaging machines, so you have to shout a bit to be heard. We don't have a showroom or anything like that because this is strictly a place where work happens. Most of our days are spent checking that the roots are good or making sure the powder is fine enough. The floor is concrete and often covered in fine dust despite us sweeping it constantly. It’s a family-run kind of vibe, even if we have quite a few people working here now. We usually have lunch together in a small room in the back. It’s hard work, especially when the weather is humid, but we’ve been doing this for long enough that it’s just normal for us.
