Capital Art Gallery

Capital Art Gallery is over in Khan Market at A 43. It’s a small space, so we have to be very careful about how much we put on the walls at one time. We spend our days handling frames and helping people pick out what looks right for their homes or offices. It’s a lot of measuring, cutting glass, and making sure the corners are straight. We don't have a huge staff, just a couple of us who take care of everything. Khan Market is usually very busy, but it stays a bit quieter inside here. We have to keep the glass very clean, so we’re always out there with a cloth and some spray. We aren't art experts with fancy degrees; we just know what we like and what our customers usually look for. We don't have a big corporate strategy or a mission. We just open the doors and see who comes in. Sometimes we spend a lot of time wrapping pieces in plastic and cardboard so they don't break on the way home. It’s a lot of tape and bubble wrap. The shop has a lot of history in the market. We don't use any high-tech systems to run the place. We just talk to people and help them with their framing or their art. It’s a steady kind of work, nothing too fast-paced compared to the restaurants nearby. We just like being surrounded by the pictures all day while we do our work.
