About Aman Unisex Saloon – Beauty & Salon in New Delhi
Working in Connaught Place is always a bit chaotic with the crowds. Shop Number 26 is where we spend most of our daylight hours. Being near Bengali Market means there is always a smell of food drifting over in the afternoons. We started the Aman Unisex Saloon because there was a gap for a place that didn't charge crazy prices. The chairs are comfortable enough, even if the leather is starting to show some wear on the edges. I usually keep the radio on a local station for some background noise while we work on hair or shaving. Customers come in all day, some are regular office workers from nearby blocks and others are just tourists who got lost looking for the metro. We have a couple of mirrors that are a bit old but they do the job just fine. My hands are usually smelling like shampoo or shaving cream by the time I head home. It gets really busy on weekends, so sometimes we don't even get a proper lunch break. We just grab a quick snack from the vendors outside. The floor needs sweeping every twenty minutes otherwise it gets messy with all the hair. It’s a small space, so we have to stay organized with the combs and scissors. Sometimes the water pressure acts up, but we’ve learned how to fix that pretty quickly now. It’s just a regular shop where people can come get a haircut without a lot of fuss. It works for us. We've been here for years.
