Ajit Hair Saloon

I’ve been cutting hair at R.K. Puram Sector 9 for a long time now. My shop is at number 132, right near where the I.G.L. station is. It’s a small place, just enough for a couple of chairs and a wooden bench for people to wait on. Most of the men in the neighborhood come here for their regular trim. We don't have any of those fancy lights or expensive products you see in the big malls. It’s just me and sometimes my nephew helping out when he's not at school. We talk about everything—the cricket scores, the price of vegetables, or whatever else is happening in Delhi today. The mirrors are a bit old and have some spots on them, but they still show you what you need to see. I like the sound of the scissors clicking and the smell of the shaving cream we use. Sometimes it gets really crowded on Sunday mornings, and people have to wait outside on the pavement, but nobody seems to mind too much. It’s a chance for neighbors to catch up. I try to keep the place tidy, but with hair everywhere, it’s a constant battle with the broom. I’ve seen kids grow up in these chairs, coming in for their first haircut and then coming back years later as grown men. It’s a nice way to spend the day, even if my legs get tired from standing. We keep things simple and honest here.
