Being in Ardhapur means we know all about the local crops, especially the bananas and turmeric that this part of Nanded is known for. Shetkari Mitra Farmers Producer Company Limited is based right at the post in Malegaon. We chose the name "Shetkari Mitra" because we really wanted to be a friend to the farmers living around here. It’s a simple idea but actually quite hard to do when you get into the details. We spend a lot of our time talking to people in the market and trying to find the best way to get our produce out to the buyers. The office isn't much to look at. It is just a small place in Malegaon where we keep our books and a few samples. It’s usually full of people coming and going, talking about the weather or the latest prices. Sometimes it’s a bit chaotic, but that is just how life is in a village like ours. We aren't trying to be some big city corporation with a lot of rules. We just want to make sure that the people who do the actual work in the sun aren't getting cheated at the end of the day. It takes a lot of effort to coordinate the transport, and sometimes we get things wrong. But we are learning. The goal is just to keep things moving and stay grounded in the soil of Nanded.
