Naviarthkaranti Farmer Producer Company Limited is based in Sugaon, specifically at Manohar Nivrati Kadam’s place, which is house number 90. The name Naviarthkaranti sounds a bit big and important, but it’s really just about trying to find a new and better way for us farmers to handle our money and our crops. We are a small group of local people who decided that we could do more if we pooled our resources together. Manohar’s house is where we keep all the records and hold our meetings after the sun goes down. We don't have a corporate office with air conditioning; it’s just a room with some chairs where we sit and talk about the farming season and what needs to be done. Nanded is a good place for farming, but it has its challenges like anywhere else in the state. We try to help each other find the best seeds and get a fair price when it's time to sell the harvest. It is a very hands-on job for all of us. We spend most of our time in the dirt, not behind a desk. We aren't trying to sell anyone a dream. We are just trying to make the reality of farming a little bit easier for the folks in Sugaon. It’s a slow process, building something like this from the ground up, but we are sticking with it because it’s our village.
