You can find us over at Madhavrao Nagorao Hivrale’s house, number 20, in Singnapur. It’s a small part of Umri here in the Nanded district. The air is usually dry and the sun doesn't show much mercy during the day. Most of us here have spent our whole lives growing whatever the soil allows. We formed Changdevraul because we were tired of being the last ones to know anything about market rates. It is a simple setup we have going. We meet up in the evenings after the work in the fields is mostly done. Nanded has its own way of doing things, and we try to stick to that rhythm. There isn't any big staff or fancy computers here. We mostly just rely on what we know and what our fathers taught us about the land. Sometimes we argue about which way is better to handle the transport, but we always find a way through. The house is always open for the local farmers to come and sit for a bit. It’s not about being the biggest company in the area. It’s just about making sure we don't get left behind. We keep our records in simple files and try to keep the costs low. If the crops are good, we celebrate a little, and if not, we just plan for the next cycle.
