Our little operation is set up at Shri Shriram Mahadeo Wandhade’s place over in Kinkhed. It’s a quiet spot, and that is how we like it for growing things. Aatmanirbhar Natural Vegetables & Fruits & Spices Producer Company Limited sounds like a very long name, but we are just a bunch of neighbors working the dirt together. We decided to do things the natural way because we got tired of all the chemicals people were putting on their crops lately. In Kinkhed, everyone knows everyone, so you can't really hide what you're doing in your fields even if you wanted to. We spend our mornings checking the spice plants and making sure the fruit trees are getting enough water when the sun starts beating down in the afternoon. It is not always easy, and some years the rain doesn't come when you want it to, but we manage by sticking together. We don't have a marketing team or anything polished like that. Usually, it’s just us sitting around under a tree figuring out which vegetables to plant for the next round. Our address is basically just a home in the village, which tells you a lot about how we work. We handle everything from the seeds to the final bags of spices ourselves. It’s a lot of manual labor, and our hands are usually stained from the soil, but it feels right to produce food this way for the local community.
