Rain Cements Ltd.

Our place is located over at Priyananagar, which is right near the Ramapuram post office in the Malleahcarvu area. If you have ever been around this part of the country, you know that everything gets covered in a bit of grey dust because that is just the way it is when you work with cement. Rain Cements Ltd. is the name painted on the main gate, but for those of us who show up here every day, it is just where we do our work. The trucks are the first thing you notice when you arrive. They line up very early in the morning and wait to be loaded up. It is a noisy environment with the constant hum of the heavy machinery running in the background. You eventually get used to the sound after working here for a few weeks. Most of the men who work here live nearby and they either walk or ride their cycles to the site. We do not sit in fancy offices with air conditioning; we are usually out on the plant floor or near the storage silos. It is hard physical work and your clothes get dirty almost immediately. Ramapuram is a small place, so this plant is a major part of the local scenery. We eat our lunch in whatever shade we can find when we get a break from the heat. It is a steady job and we just focus on getting the work done.
