Mahavir Steel

Our business, Mahavir Steel, is situated in the New Iron Market over in the Anaz Bazar area of Itwari. It is a very old and busy part of the city. The streets are narrow and always full of handcarts and laborers. We deal mostly in bulk steel. The shop is basically a large warehouse with a small corner for an office. It stays quite cool inside because of the high ceilings, which is nice in the summer. We have piles of iron and steel everywhere. You have to be careful where you walk. We spend our days taking orders and supervising the loading. It’s a lot of heavy lifting. My father used to run the place, and now I’m here most days. We know all the other traders in the market. It’s a tight community. Sometimes we sit out front on wooden stools and chat with the neighbors when business is slow. The traffic in Itwari is legendary, so we tell everyone to come early if they want to get their trucks out before noon. It’s a dusty, noisy place, but it’s where we’ve always been. We don’t use any fancy systems. Most of our records are still kept in big ledgers. It works for us.
