Anmol Bricks

We are out here at Plot No.232 in Turkmari. Most days start pretty early because the sun gets real hot later on in Satgaon. It is dusty around the kiln but that is just part of the job when you make bricks for a living. People around Gumgoan know where we are. We have been sitting on this plot for a while now. The stacks of red bricks get high and then they get loaded onto trucks and moved out. Sometimes the trucks are late or the rain messes with the drying process. It is a bit of a headache when that happens. We just keep at it though. My office is basically just a desk with too much paperwork on it. There is nothing fancy about what we do. It is just digging, mixing, and baking the clay until it is hard enough to build something. My brother helps out with the books and the workers are mostly from around here. We drink a lot of tea to keep going through the afternoon stretch. Usually, there is a lot of noise from the machinery but you get used to it after a week or two. If you come by, you will see us covered in some dirt. That is just the way it works. We do not have a big fancy sign, just the bricks piled up by the side. It is plain work but it keeps us busy every day and we manage to get by somehow at the end of the month.
