You can find us up on the second floor of 20/26 Vithoba Lane. Kalbadevi Road is always crowded, so you have to watch where you're going once you turn into Vithal Wadi. It’s a bit of a climb up the stairs, but that's just how it is in these old buildings in this part of town. We deal with fabrics and different kinds of cloth. My dad used to work in this same line, and I just sort of took over the shop when he got tired of it. The space is filled with rolls of material everywhere you look. It’s a bit dusty, and the light isn't the best in the late afternoons, but we know exactly where everything is kept. We don't have a website or anything fancy like that. Most of our regulars are tailors or small shop owners who have been buying from us for years. They know the quality is what it is. We spend most of our time measuring out lengths and packing up orders for people. Sometimes the delivery guys get lost finding the lane because it's so narrow and packed with carts. If the elevator is broken, which happens more than I’d like, we just carry things down by hand. It keeps us busy enough throughout the week. We aren't trying to be the biggest place in Mumbai. We just want to get through the day’s orders and make sure the fabric is right.
