Universal Apparel Exports

Universal Apparel Exports is situated at 4f/1 Court Chambers, 35 New Marine Lines. It is an interesting part of Mumbai to work in because you are so close to the station and the courts. Our daily routine is pretty much the same every week. We get in, check what needs to go out, and start sorting through the apparel samples. The office isn't very large, so things tend to pile up quickly if we don't stay on top of the packing. We have big desks covered in fabric swatches and shipping documents. Sometimes it feels like we are living in a maze of cardboard boxes. The light coming in from the windows is okay, but we usually have the overheads on all day anyway. It is a bit of an old-fashioned way of working, maybe, but it suits us fine. There is a tea seller nearby who brings us cutting chai in the afternoons, which is a nice break from the computer screens. We don't really do much in the way of decoration; the walls are mostly covered with calendars and lists. Moving goods through the busy streets of Mumbai is always a challenge, but we have our ways of getting things done. It is just a practical, hardworking environment where the main goal is to finish the export lists and get home before the trains get too packed.
