Our office is on the 4th floor of Vithaldas Chambers, which is a fairly old building on Bombay Samachar Marg. Being in the Fort area, there’s a lot of history in the walls here. You can hear the city noise from the street below, but once you’re up on the 4th floor, it’s a bit more contained. We deal with industrial oils and chemicals, so our desks are usually covered in technical sheets and price lists. The building has those old-fashioned windows and high ceilings. We’ve been here for quite some time, and the place has a worn-in feel. There’s no fancy lobby or high-tech security, just the usual staff coming in and out. We spend the day tracking shipments and talking to suppliers. Sometimes we have to head down to the docks or visit the plants, but mostly we are right here at number 16. The files are piled up in the corners because we’ve been doing this for years. We use the old elevator which is a bit slow, but it gets the job done. Lunch is usually something quick from a local stall nearby. It’s a very traditional way of doing business in Mumbai. We don't try to be something we’re not. We just manage the oil and chemical accounts and make sure the business keeps ticking over as it always has.
