If you head down Carrol Road and turn into the J. V. Patel Compound, you'll find us at Gala Number 8 in Building 3. We have been here at Ujjwal Apparels for quite some time now. Being in an industrial area means it gets noisy and dusty, but that’s just the way it goes when making clothes. Most of our day is spent at the machines or sorting through the different fabrics that arrive. The compound stays full of trucks and people moving things around, so there is always a lot of activity. Inside the gala, the setup is very simple. We don’t have fancy chairs or a front lobby, just our work benches and plenty of thread. It is a small operation for the most part. Our main focus is just getting the garments finished and sent out to the next place. On busy days, we might stay late to finish everything, while other days are much quieter. Knowing the neighbors is easy since everyone in these buildings is doing similar work. It is not a glamorous job, but it is what we do. We try to keep our heads down and just get the work done right. You can usually see one of us near the entrance during a quick break. That is pretty much how things go at our little spot on Carrol Road. It is just honest labor.
