The New India Electric & Trading Co.

Our office is in Hamam House, which is at 38 Ambalal Doshi Marg in the Fort area. If you know South Mumbai, you know these old buildings have a lot of character and very high ceilings. The New India Electric & Trading Co. has been operating from here for a long time. The elevators are old and sometimes you’re better off taking the stairs. It’s a busy part of town with lawyers, bankers, and all sorts of traders walking around. We are just one of many businesses in this building. Inside, our space is filled with ledgers, samples, and old wooden furniture that’s seen better days. We don't have a modern look because we haven't seen the need to change what works. We trade in electrical goods and other things, mostly dealing with people who have been our customers for decades. There’s a lot of phone calls and paperwork every single day. We don’t go in for flashy ads. Most of our work comes from people knowing we have been here forever. Sometimes it gets a bit noisy with the street sounds coming through the windows, but that’s just Fort for you. We eat our lunch together at the big table and talk about the news or the weather. It’s a simple, honest way to run a business. We just keep things moving and try to stay on top of the orders. We’ve seen the area change a lot, but we just stay the same.
