Texcellence Overseas

Pushpawati Bldg. 2 is where we work, right in the Chandanwadi area of Girgaum. It’s an old building with those narrow stairs that make you huff and puff if you're carrying anything heavy. Texcellence Overseas is a small office, mostly filled with filing cabinets and a few desks that have seen better days. Being in Mumbai, it’s always loud outside with the horns and the people shouting. We do a lot of business over the phone, so there’s a lot of talking going on all at once. Sometimes the ceiling leak gets bad during the monsoon, so we have to move the computers around to dry spots. We deal with people from all over, but we are just a few regular folks sitting in this room. There’s a small balcony where we keep some dead plants and where the pigeons like to hang out. We don't have a receptionist or anyone like that; whoever is closest to the door just opens it. The tea lady comes around twice a day, and that’s usually the highlight of the morning. We spend a lot of time staring at spreadsheets and tracking containers that are somewhere in the middle of the ocean. It’s a lot of sitting and waiting, then a lot of rushing around at the last minute. We’ve been in Girgaum for years and wouldn't really know how to work anywhere else in the city.
