We are located on the second floor of building 36 in the Surve Industrial Estate. It’s right on Sonawala Cross Road Number 1 in Goregaon East. Being in an industrial estate means there is always a lot of noise and movement around us. Trucks are always loading and unloading in the lane downstairs. We’ve got a decent sized space up here for our garment work. We have rows of sewing machines and cutting tables spread out across the floor. It gets pretty cramped when we have a big order to finish. The elevators in this building are old and sometimes they get stuck, so we end up carrying rolls of fabric up the stairs more often than we’d like. It’s hard work, especially when the humidity is high. We don’t have any fancy corporate setup here. It’s just us, the machines, and piles of fabric everywhere. We focus on getting the garments stitched up properly. Sometimes we stay late when a deadline is coming up, drinking tea and trying to finish the last few pieces. My desk is tucked away in a corner behind some boxes of buttons. It’s not a quiet place to work, but we are used to it by now. Goregaon is a busy hub for this kind of stuff. We just do our part and try to stay out of the way of the other businesses in the estate. It’s a practical way to earn a living. The fans hum all day long to keep the air moving.
