Silktex Exports

Silktex Exports is based out of Laxmi Bhavan on D. Road. It’s one of those older buildings near Marine Drive. We’ve been here at number 58 for a long time. The space is filled with fabric swatches and boxes ready for shipping. Since we do exports, there’s always a lot of talk about shipping schedules and customs stuff. It’s not a glamorous job, even if people think of silk that way. Most of the day is spent on the phone or checking emails to see where a container is. The office gets a bit cramped because we keep so many samples on hand. You can’t really move without bumping into a roll of something. We don't have a big fancy sign outside. Most people who come here already know where we are. It’s a small team, just a few of us handling everything from the paperwork to checking the quality of the cloth. The sea breeze is nice when we open the windows, but it also brings in a lot of dust. We’ve grown used to the rhythm of the area. It’s a lot of repetitive work, checking colors and textures over and over. We don't use any high-tech systems, just some basic computers and a lot of notebooks. It’s how we’ve always done it, and it seems to work fine for us. Even with the salty air rusting the metal window frames, we prefer staying put.
