Shri Shakti General Store

We are located in Govind Naik Chawl right in Dahisar East. If you are standing opposite Saptarshi Sankul you can see our shop at number one. It’s a basic general store. We keep everything from pulses and rice to biscuits and cleaning soaps. The space is quite tight. We have to stack things high up on the shelves. Most of our customers live right here in the chawl or in the buildings nearby. They come in for milk early in the morning. Or for some snacks in the evening. We don't have any big signs or fancy displays. It’s just the goods and a wooden counter where we do the billing. I’ve been running this place for years. I know most of the kids who grow up around here. They come in for a single chocolate or a packet of chips. The rainy season is always a bit tough for us. The water splashes inside if we don't put up the plastic sheets in time. We keep the doors open from morning until late at night. Sometimes the delivery trucks block the road while they are dropping off the sacks of grains. People around here are used to it. It’s a simple life of counting change and making sure the jars are full. We don't try to be anything other than a neighborhood shop where you can find what you need for your kitchen. That is enough for us.
