Shree Dattatray General Stores

Our shop is number 7 in Gauri Shankar Chawl, over in Mulund West. It is a small place but we manage to pack a lot of items onto the shelves. We sell all the usual things people need for their homes every day. You can find soap, snacks, grains, and all that kind of stuff here. I have been standing behind this counter for a long time. The shelves go all the way up to the ceiling. I have a long wooden stick with a metal hook to get things down when a customer asks. It is a local spot for the neighborhood. I know most of the people who live in the chawl by their names. We talk about the weather or how much the price of onions has gone up this week. It is not like a big supermarket where you walk around with a metal cart. You just tell me what you need from the list and I go get it for you. Sometimes children come in with a few coins for a single piece of candy. I keep all the change in a small metal box under the counter. The front door stays open all day to let a little breeze in. It mostly just brings in the noise from the street though. We close for a bit in the afternoon when it gets quiet. It is just me and my nephew.
