Mittal Industrial Estate is a massive place and finding Building Number 6 can be a bit of a task for newcomers. We are up on the first floor at unit 163. Shivasaa Apparels has been operating from this corner of Andheri East for some time now. The Andheri Kurla Road is always packed with traffic, so we hear the honking from our windows throughout the shift. Inside, it’s all about the work. We have rows of machines and a cutting section that takes up a lot of the floor space. The light isn't always the best, but we've added enough lamps to see the stitches clearly. Working in an industrial estate means you’re surrounded by other businesses, mostly people making things or fixing things. We fit right in. Our staff mostly comes from nearby areas, arriving early to get the lines running. We don’t do much fancy talk here. If an order needs to be finished, we stay until it’s done. The floor is usually covered in bits of thread and fabric scraps by the evening. We clean it up and start again the next morning. It’s a routine that works for us. We handle the manufacturing side of things, making sure the garments are put together properly before they get packed into boxes. It’s honest work and we’ve built a decent reputation among the local traders just by being consistent with what we do.
