If you look for us at Room No. 20 in Kesrimal Wadi, you will find us right opposite the Marathi School. It’s on Jakaria Road in Malad West, which is always packed with people. Our shop is small, and every inch is filled with clothes. We have stacks of fabric and ready-made items piled up high. It’s a bit of a squeeze when more than two people come in at once. We don’t have fancy mannequins or bright spotlights. It’s just us and the clothes. Most of our day is spent unfolding things to show people and then folding them back up again. The school kids outside make a lot of noise when they finish for the day, and you can hear the bells and the shouting clearly from our door. We’ve been in this room for a long time. The floor tiles are a bit worn out from all the walking. We know most of the people who walk past every day. Sometimes we just sit on the stools and talk to the neighbors while waiting for someone to drop by. We don’t do big ads. People find us because they live nearby or their friends told them about us. It gets really hot in the summer, so we keep the door open to get a bit of a breeze. It’s a simple life here in Malad. We just try to sell stuff and keep the shop running.
