Shanta Sea Foods

Shanta Sea Foods is located right at number 7 in Trombay Village. Being so close to the water means we are always around the smell of the sea and the sound of the boats. We get started very early in the morning, usually before the sun is even up properly. That is when the catch comes in and we have to get moving. It is cold work, dealing with ice and water all day long. Our boots are always wet and the floor is usually slippery. We have a small crew here and we all know our roles. It is not the kind of job where you sit down much. We spend most of the day sorting through what the fishermen bring us. Trombay Village is a tight-knit place and everyone knows what everyone else is doing. We don’t have a big office or anything. It is just a workspace where we get the job done. Sometimes the weather is bad and the boats don’t go out, and then we just spend the day cleaning the equipment and fixing nets. It is a simple way of life, but it’s what we’ve always done. We don’t need much to keep going. Just the village, the water, and the daily work. It is honest labor and we are fine with that. We just take it one day at a time. The cats always hang around the door waiting for scraps and leftovers when we finish up for the evening and head home to rest.
