Nagpal Fish Fry

Nagpal Fish Fry is a small shop located at Akal Society in Tarun, Andheri East. We’re pretty close to the Kohinoor Hotel, so we get a mix of local residents and people staying nearby. Mumbai is always moving fast, and Andheri East is no different. We spend our evenings frying up fish right there in the shop. The smell of the spices and the frying oil is something you get used to after a while. It’s a small space, Shop No 1, so it gets a bit cramped when there’s a line of people waiting. We don’t have a big staff, just a couple of us working the fryers and taking the money. We’ve been in the Akal Society area for some time now and the neighbors know us well. It’s a straightforward business—we get the fish, we clean it, we fry it, and we sell it. There’s no fancy marketing or big signs, just the food. Most of our customers come after work to grab something on their way home. The humidity in Mumbai makes the kitchen even hotter, but we just keep going. It’s work and it keeps the lights on. We don’t try to be anything we’re not. If you want some fried fish and you’re around Tarun Bharat or near the hotel, you’ll find us easily enough. We’re just part of the local street food scene here. It gets messy and loud sometimes, but that is just part of living and working in Mumbai.
