If you know Nagdevi Cross Lane, you know it’s one of the most crowded parts of the city. We are located at number 43, up on the third floor. Climbing those stairs every day keeps us fit, though it’s a bit of a struggle when we have to carry heavy bags or samples up. The building is old, with that specific smell of metal and old wood that you find in this hardware district. Our agency has been here for years. It’s not a large office, just a few rooms packed with whatever we are trading at the time. We sit at the 3rd floor, so we are a little away from the street noise, but you can still hear the shouting of the loaders and the horns below. We don’t have fancy signs or a reception area. It’s just us and our ledgers. The light in the hallway is a bit dim, and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it works for us. Most of our day is spent talking to people who come up looking for specific items. We know where everything is kept, even if it looks like a mess to someone else. We take a break in the afternoon when the sun hits the windows. It’s a tight-knit community here in Nagdevi. Everyone knows what the other is doing. We just focus on our orders and making sure the counts are right before things go out into the chaos of the street.
